For those of you keeping curfew, here are some daytime and family-friendly activities New Noise is offering up this weekend.

Pianos on State

For the second year in a row, New Noise is partnering with a handful of S.B. nonprofits for a music installation project everyone can get down with. Starting today and running for two weekends, pianos will be set up throughout downtown State Street and made available for both casual play and planned performances. Artists will be scheduled to sit down and tickle the ivories intermittently throughout the event, and passersby are welcome to play during nonscheduled hours. The display is also in conjunction with the 3rd Annual Instrument Drive 4 Youth (sbefoundation.org), which takes place throughout the month of November.

New Noise Block Party

On Saturday, November 5, 1-5:30 p.m., Arlington Way plays host to an afternoon of concert-style fun in the sun. For one day only, the street will be closed to make way for The Living Room’s live-music stage, featuring some of Santa Barbara’s brightest young players. On the bill: Howlin Woods, False Puppet, Haddon Cord, The Notes for Notes Band, and Bad Jack. The Living Room’s spokesfolk will also be there dishing up the details on the soon-to-be-reopened, all-ages, drug- and alcohol-free club. Bring the kids, and come ready to rock.

Mentoring Sessions

During Saturday’s New Noise Conference at the Canary Hotel, players old and young can sign up to seek advice from the pros. Conference panelists will be on hand 10 a.m.-noon to field your questions and offer insight on all aspects of the biz. Starting a band? They’ll tell ya how. Confused about how to license your tunes? They’ve got the answers. Visit newnoisesb.com for info.
