Jim Kemp, SBCAG Executive Director said, “The first cycle of Measure A North County Bicycle & Pedestrian and Safe Routes to Schools Programs has been a great success. Important projects will be funded that increase the safety of children walking and riding bikes to school by filling missing sidewalk gaps and installing warning signals at crosswalks around north county. These are exactly the types of improvements promised to voters when they approved Measure A with 79% support in November of 2008.”

The cities of Santa Maria, Lompoc, Solvang, Buellton, Guadalupe and the County of Santa Barbara, many schools districts, PTAs and civic groups that promote bicycle and pedestrian usage participated in the process by either submitting projects for consideration or participating on the scoring committee. Projects in Lompoc, Buellton, Guadalupe and Orcutt will receive funding this cycle.

The South County Bike/Pedestrian/Safe Routes to School program funding recommendations were approved by the SBCAG Board in January.
