An unidentified woman was hit and killed by a train Thursday evening at the Olive Mill Road crossing in Montecito.

Geri Ventura with the Montecito Fire Protection District said her office received a call at 7:09 p.m. of a train vs. pedestrian incident. Responders found the woman dead at the scene. Her identity has not been released.

The southbound Amtrak train was held at the scene for approximately two hours as a replacement engineer was brought in, which is standard practice for Amtrak when such incidents occur.
