The Goleta school district appointed a new principal for Isla Vista Elementary School. Mary Kahn comes from Washington Elementary in Santa Barbara where she was both a teacher and administrator. Former principal Lisa Maglione left after an 11-year tenure to take over as Director of Educational Support Services with the county education office. Isla Vista was named a California Distinguished School last year for its progress in closing the achievement gap.
