A woman walking her dog near the Butterfly Lane freeway underpass in Montecito was struck and killed by an Amtrak passenger train at around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. According to authorities, the train was stopped for an hour after the incident. The Sheriff’s Department is investigating what happened, said a spokesperson, and the Coroner’s Office is working to identify the woman. Her dog was handed over to animal control officers, and it will stay at a shelter until the victim is identified and her family is notified.
