As part of its commitment to supporting local causes in the communities in which it works, Whole Foods Market stores, nationwide, hold Community Giving Days twice a year and donate five percent of that day’s net sales to a local nonprofit or educational organization.

SBBA is a non-profit dedicated to the promotion and advancement of beekeeping, education, mentoring, and increasing public awareness of environmental concerns affecting honey bees in the Santa Barbara area. Volunteers set up a booth with a live bee observation hive and shared information about local beekeeping, rescues, and classes available through the organization. Rae Van Seenus, Whole Foods Marketing Supervisor said, “We had a tremendously successful day, due to community support. This was our highest 5% day donation since opening in 2009”.

These funds will be used to further the mission of SBBA by purchasing supplies and educational materials. Beekeeping classes and workshops are offered throughout the year. Public talks are available for organizations, schools, clubs, and local events.

SBBA rescues and removes bees as a community service. Those bees are then given to backyard beekeepers supporting the mission of saving the bees. If you would like to have an SBBA beekeeper relocate a swarm or inconvenient hive, please contact them at SBBA.org or phone at 805-699-6229.
