Montessori Center School Architecture Fair
The students have been studying different architects (including Antoni Gaudi, Frank Gehry, Frank Lloyd Wright, Maya Lin, etc.) for months. They have also been doing hands-on experiments to better understand the forces that act on buildings like compression, tension, torque, and load. They have built domes, newspaper towers, beam and suspension bridges, etc. in class.
Each student has chosen a project of interest to research and build for the Fair. The projects include a wide variety of buildings and engineering marvels. They range from the Taj Mahal, to the Empire State Building, the Sydney Opera House to the Golden Gate Bridge, an Egyptian Pyramid to Yankee Stadium, an elevator to a calculator, a Hobbit Hole to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Cactus Buildings in Qatar to the International Space Station, an eco-friendly designed house to a windmill farm, Chichen Itza to Taipei 101, windmills to castles and so much more.
The students have studied about their projects and learned much in the various building processes they have followed. It will be an exciting, informative fair.
They will also be constructing a Canstruction project from hundreds of cans of food that will be donated after the fair is over.
We invite anyone who is interested to come visit on Thursday or Friday morning from 9 to 11:30 or Thursday night between 6 and 8 PM when the students will be at their projects to talk about them and answer any questions viewers might have.
