Quacked Crumbs
Riffing on comments that crumbs are quacked and the hands of children who throw them in ponds should be slapped.
Observing a joy of childhood –
Feeding the ducks ‘food’ –
I pitied the bread feeders,
No thought or need but theirs
Hallowed though they mean no harm –
Transfixed upon the ritual’s charm
They prevent it from giving way,
Evolving understanding for today,
Rising above the duck and turtle poop,
Encouraging migration and flying the coop.
Blind to unkind water quality
And boisterously blooming algae,
The ignorant public struggles to overcome –
Even P&R hardly gives a quack about this one.
The ancient natural cycle is in charge.
You may enjoy the thrill of animals at large,
But their ecosystem must be maintained,
So perhaps humans must be trained –
Even jewels need to be cleaned
Or their sparkle will be weaned.
