Daraka Larimore Hall, longtime head of the Santa Barbara Democratic Central Committee, was elected to the statewide party’s executive committee, winning his bid to become party secretary this weekend by a wide margin. Larimore Hall is the first Santa Barbaran — or Central Coast representative — to sit on the committee since anyone can remember. He credited this with the strong support he picked up from many of the smaller, more rural, and conservative counties — ironic given Larimore Hall’s outspokenly progressive agenda. Larimore Hall also enjoyed strong support from Assemblymember Das Williams and received $500 from County Supervisor Salud Carbajal. Famous in party circles for not having a driver’s license until last year, Larimore Hall, 37, said he crisscrossed the state using mass transit without difficulty. His new position is not paid, and he intends to remain fully engaged with the Santa Barbara central committee.
