The Santa Barbara County Fire Department has sent 15 engines and air support units to help fight the fire currently burning in Camarillo, according to Chief Michael Dyer.

The cause of the massive blaze is under investigation. It began Thursday morning and, pushed by heavy winds and hot temperatures, has spread to 6,500 acres and counting.

This week marked the beginning of high fire season in Santa Barbara, which means the County Fire Department increases the resources it deploys when responding to calls. Department officials encourage the public to be vigilant during the high fire season.
