What’s a beer lover living deep in the belly of one of the world’s most renowned wine countries to do? Start a beer festival, of course! (Why should winos have all the fun? If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, and all that.) That’s what the folks at the Buellton Chamber of Commerce did last year, and clearly they were onto something, because the event was a huge sellout (they’re quick to reassure: They’ve ordered more glasses and allocated more tickets for this year). The afternoon-long fest, which takes place this Saturday, May 11, noon-4 p.m., will focus on craft beers and the art of beer making, and will feature lunch, music, and unlimited beer tastings. Nearly 20 breweries will be on hand, including some area brewers you’re likely familiar with — Figueroa Mountain, Island, and Firestone — as well as some interesting craft brewers including Chicago’s Goose Island Beer Company and S.F. Bay Area “farm to barrel” brewers Almanac Beer Company. And for the hardcore/those who want to make a weekend out of it, a ticket to the “Whole Shebang” will also earn you entrée to a Friday night dinner at Bin 2860 International Wine Shop & Tasting Room. Cheers!
