Santa Barbara police have made an arrest in the shooting incident that took place last Tuesday, May 14, near the Taco Bell on upper Milpas Street.

In a prepared statement, police spokesperson Sgt. Riley Harwood said that on May 17 an 18-year-old gang member was taken into custody by SBPD Youth Services Section detectives when he arrived for an unrelated court appearance. The suspect is being held in County Jail on an attempted murder charge with a gang enhancement, and his bail is set at $700,000, Harwood said. It does not appear anyone was struck by the gunfire.

Authorities have not released any additional information on the incident or the arrest, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation. Harwood did explain, however, that while the shooting was gang-related, “it does not appear related to the previous day’s stabbing of a gang member on 900 E. Gutierrez Street.”
