Assemblymember Das Williams met with school superintendents throughout his district — including all of Santa Barbara County and parts of Ventura County — last Friday to hear their thoughts on the governor’s school finance reform plan, called the Local Control Funding Formula. Several districts had specific concerns, and most agreed they would like another year before they must implement it to work out the kinks. Cindy Abbott of the Carpinteria district was worried that new stipulations on spending for underrepresented students would overlap with money already budgeted to them, thus shortchanging the general population. The bill is currently in the budget conference committee.
