City College No Longer On ‘Warning’ Status
Accrediting Commission Makes Decision During June Meeting
Santa Barbara City College is no longer under “Warning,” President Lori Gaskin communicated in a letter sent to faculty and staff on July 6. She had been notified three days earlier that the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) made its decision during its biannual June meeting. In that same meeting, the commission chose to pull the accreditation — effective June 2014 — of the state’s largest community college, San Francisco City College, putting the fate of 85,000 students into question. This year, SBCC was named the best community college in the nation by the Aspen Institute.
