The public is invited to attend the “HeartSaver” CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) and FBAO (Foreign Body Airway Obstruction) Class for Adults at Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital (SYVCH) on Monday, October 21, 2013 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in the front conference room at the hospital located at 2050 Viborg Road in Solvang; enter through the Physicians Clinic entrance which is the door to the left of the entrance to the hospital.

Based on American Heart Association guidelines for the lay public, the HeartSaver course covers CPR and FBAO for adults and children over the age of eight years. This class also includes instruction of the use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).This course is appropriate for non-professional caregivers, teachers and any lay person who wants to learn these skills. Participants will receive a course completion card upon successfully finishing the class.

Educator, Tina Collins, RN, MSN, ICCE with the Cottage Health System Education Department leads the course and says, “Come and learn how to be a heart saver. What you learn in three hours could rescue someone’s life.” Collins has worked in patient education with Cottage Health System for more than 30 years and has extensive knowledge of these critical life skills.

The course fee is $20.00 per person and pre-registration is required by October 18, 2013. Participants must be over 10 years of age. Please register by calling (805) 569-8229 as soon as possible to receive a form by mail or visit to download the form and then mail in payment.
