The District Attorney’s Office will receive more money to expand its Real Estate Fraud Prosecution Program after the Board of Supervisors approved a fee increase from $3 to $10 for recorded real estate documents. According to the DA’s Office, fraudsters typically prey on seniors and Spanish speakers facing foreclosure. In the last three years, the six-year-old program has worked with 163 victims who lost a combined $25.4 million. The fee increase will provide $684,000 to cover $669,000 in expenses; excess funds will be saved for future investigations.
