The Santa Barbara Police and Parks & Recreation departments are collaborating to launch a one-year pilot program which will establish a Community Policing Office at the Franklin Neighborhood Center at 1136 East Montecito Street.

The Franklin Neighborhood center is located on the Eastside of Santa Barbara, adjacent to the Eastside Library. It has multipurpose rooms available to rent for parties, fundraisers, and meetings, as well as a teen center.

According to a press release from the police department, the office will create a location other than police headquarters where citizens can interact with officers, as well as improve programs at the Franklin Center by providing a greater sense of security. Additional details on the new facility were not immediately available.

A ceremony commemorating the opening of the Community Policing Office will be held 1 p.m. on October 22.
