New Franklin Trail Film

“The Reopening of The Franklin Trail” is a new film recently completed by Larry Nimmer for the City of Carpinteria. It can be seen online at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEPPRHsabFs&list=UU3_SYmlrO4_UzF5JsaidfFw and it is now playing on Carpinteria’s Ch. 21.

The Franklin trail is a historic route from Carpinteria to Jameson Lake in the Los Padres National Forest. However, the trail had been closed for decades and there has been no access to Carpinteria’s back country until the recent reopening.

The film documents the historic use of the trail and the process by which the trail was reopened. The effort was made by a combination of concerned citizens, property owners, Santa Barbara County, The Land Trust, the City of Carpinteria and many others.

The film features spectacular footage of the trail and back country, historical images from the Carpinteria Valley Museum of History and interviews with some of the key players.

Nimmer says, “I’m proud to have had the opportunity to add to my collection of Carpinteria films that include “Carpinteria Then and Now”, “Story of a Marsh Park”, “Carpinteria Creeks”, and “Touring with the Candidates”. He’s currently working on an oral histories project titled “Talking in the Library”.
