The Central Coast Water Authority is again pumping state water into Lake Cachuma after installing a bypass piping system along the Bradbury Dam spillway and into the lake, according to the organization’s executive director, Ray Stokes. Pumping had been on hold since 4/4, when the federal Bureau of Reclamation ordered the stop in order to use the pumping facilities to meet its required flows to Hilton Creek, home to endangered steelhead trout. The water districts of Goleta, Montecito, the Carpinteria Valley, as well as purveyors City of Santa Barbara and La Cumbre Mutual Water Company, all benefit from the 50 acre-feet of state water pumped daily into Cachuma.
