Disruption Is On
I’m hopping on a train from the Bay Area to New York City in a four-day cross-country trip to the largest climate rally in history. The People’s Climate Train will take me and more than 150 other people to New York City for the People’s Climate March on September 21. Thousands of us will be there with a simple message for world leaders: It’s time for real action on climate change.
People are coming for different reasons. I’m going because I have been teaching, researching, and learning about the climate crisis for a number of years. I have attended the last three UN climate summits, where world leaders are proving unequal to the challenge of cutting global emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases released by burning fossil fuels.
I’m riding this train because I am enormously inspired by the emerging youth-driven climate justice movement, which I think represents humanity’s best hope for getting governments everywhere to rise to the challenge of transforming our carbon-driven economies into sustainable, democratic, and just societies.
We are demanding System Change Not Climate Change!
If we don’t act now, history will remember us as the generation that knew about this terrible problem and refused to act. I’m ready to make my voice heard.
