School iPad Program Gets Mixed Reviews

The 1-to-1 iPad pilot program received a mixed report card at Tuesday’s school board meeting. The good news is that of the 1,150 iPads that are in the hands of students at Adams, Franklin, and Washington elementary schools and La Cuesta High School, only 12 have been reported broken or missing. Plus, three of the principals told boardmembers that “incredible” things were happening in the classroom, such as virtually monitoring students’ daily progress. But ongoing issues include difficulties in creating Apple IDs, concerns that a 16-gigabyte tablet might not provide enough memory, and problems with the payment method, all of which will be discussed at a November meeting.
