Change the 24th
It’s time for a change in representation for 24th District.
As a woman, I’m embarrassed by Lois Capps’s physical absence in this election. She appears afraid to face the people she is supposed to be representing. Instead of appearing in open debate or open community forums, she is counting on commercials that include partial sentences from the other candidate (lying) and is allowing the use of ads that distort the positions and statements of the other candidate to carry her to victory rather than telling us all why her votes have represented Santa Barbara’s best interests. Shame on her!
It is pathetic that we in Santa Barbara have kept the same people and party in office too long. The intent of our founders was that the House of Representatives would be a place where people from all walks of life would move in and out frequently, so that fresh thoughts and ideas would be ever present. Instead, by constantly electing the same candidate from the same party (with the help of great sums of money from outside our district), we have made it possible for many good ideas to wither without exposure, have created a sense of entitlement on one side and of co-dependency in our educational, law enforcement, and social welfare programs on the other, and have watched good jobs and the best of our next generation leave this area for places where opportunity is wide open.
Shame on us!
