Starting on Sunday, December 28, the Sheriff’s Office will ramp up its enforcement of three county ordinances banning the use of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), also known as quads, in certain areas, in response to increasing complaints from Lompoc community members about frequent ATV use near the riverbed.

Homeowners in the unincorporated area of the county near Lompoc have voiced concerns to the department about the off-road vehicles’ noise and have pointed to increased in the amount of trash, vandalism (including crop damage and cut fences), and injuries to cows that have come along with the ATV trips.

Complaints also include worries about associated camp fires and related drug and alcohol use. Those caught violating the ordinances will be cited or arrested and could face prosecution, Sheriff’s officials said.
