Regarding the News-Press “illegal” controversy, it is unclear how the paper determined whether all these people in line were undocumented immigrants. Was there one line that day at DMV for undocumented workers and another line for all others?

The DMV usually has several lines in the morning. So how was this “illegal” count taken, and who concluded that everybody in that line was an “illegal”?

Was there one “illegal” in that long line or more than one?

What was the criteria for determining and concluding that everyone standing in that line was an “illegal”? Was it that anyone in line with brown skin and black hair was considered an “illegal” for the sole purpose of publishing an inflammatory headline and photo?

The headline and photo belonged in the opinion page. The newspaper sent the message: Look at how the “illegals” are tying up the DMV when they have no business even being in that line.

That kind of “journalism” just promotes fear mongering and ignorance.
