A new traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of De la Vina and Arrellaga streets, city officials said Thursday. In 2013, there were 12 collisions there, more than any other intersection in Santa Barbara. The installation work began in early April and wrapped up this week.
Of the 12 collisions in 2013, 11 were vehicle vs. vehicle, and 1 was vehicle vs. pedestrian. The new lights are coordinated with the signal at the intersection of De la Vina and Micheltorena streets, said engineers, who also installed an all-way stop at Arrellaga and Bath streets, which is one block west of the new lights, and at Chapala Street and Arrellaga, which is one block east.
The project’s total cost was $173,000; $140,000 came from Caltrans and the Federal Highway Administration, and the city paid for the rest.
