Granada Tower Office Space for Sale
Four Floors, Retail and Storage Space Listed for About $11.5 Million
Much of State Street’s historic Granada Tower was listed for sale on Friday. Four floors of office space — as well as ground-floor retail space, basement, lobby, rooftop storage, and cell tower — list at $11,575,000 and comprise 17,876-square-feet of property. Real estate brokers Greg Bartholomew and Michael Martz of Hayes Commercial Group are managing the sale on behalf of property owners 1216 State Street, LLC.
The eight-story iconic Granada Theatre and Tower, designed by A.B. Rosenthal and completed on April 9, 1924 by C.M. Urton, was then considered a “skyscraper” by disapproving Santa Barbara locals, according to the real estate brokers’ sales brochure. A year after the building’s project plans were released, a new city ordinance prohibited building additional structures taller than 60 feet. At 119-feet-tall, the Granada Tower remains the tallest building in Santa Barbara, Hayes Commercial Group said.
In 2010, the Granada Theatre and Tower — previously divided into two separate properties — were completely renovated. The tower’s seventh and eighth floors had become residential units. “Now the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth floors will be sold together with the ground-floor restaurant space, rooftop storage, and cell tower as an investment package,” the Hayes Commercial Group wrote in its brochure.
