Hartmann for 3rd

As a 28-year resident of Los Olivos, I have seen many changes in the Santa Ynez Valley. I guess that’s what we call progress, and it is inevitable. But there is a great divide between rampant, unchecked “progress” and the thoughtful, carefully planned progress that occurs when those in government are closely aligned with the desire of their constituents. Community Plans, urban growth boundaries, and public forums on important issues keep progress from becoming chaos.

Joan Hartmann’s tenure as 3rd District Planning Commissioner was marked by close adherence to the wishes of the citizenry, compromise when needed, and leadership backed by thorough study of the issues. Chaotic growth creates Orange counties and Phoenixes, areas that have outstripped their ability to provide the kind of natural beauty and quality of life most of their citizens would like to enjoy.

Santa Barbara County can go one of two ways: smart, planned, citizen-accepted progress or chaotic, developer-driven, paved-over urban sprawl. That is the essence of the choice we make for 3rd District Supervisor. I am on the side of smart planning, thoughtful approaches to progress and the retention of the quality of life that makes Santa Barbara County an oasis in a sea of sprawl. I am supporting Joan Hartmann for 3rd District Supervisor.
