Rey Fire Now 68 Percent Contained
The Rey Fire showed minimal activity and no growth Sunday night, officials reported Monday morning. It’s burned 33,006 acres and is now 68 percent contained. Fire crews hope for full containment by Wednesday and are patrolling the blaze’s perimeter looking for hot spots.
They’ll remain on high alert as a high-pressure system arrived this morning, which brought warmer and drier conditions. Santa Barbara County Fire officials have issued a Red Flag warning through Wednesday morning and said north to northeast winds are expected blow at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.
Firefighters will spend Monday securing and mopping up the remaining uncontained line along the northeast edge while crews build direct handlines from Mono Creek through Pie Canyon and the Indian Creek drainage. Crews will also be installing waterbars and removing berms in other areas.
