It is ironic that one of the Republican Party’s most celebrated values is taking personal responsibility for one’s actions, yet this, it turns out, is perhaps Donald Trump’s greatest weakness. Instead of owning up to mistakes and shortcomings and taking steps to improve, Trump shifts instead into denial, blaming of others, and outright lying.
This is exactly what happened after his recent less than stellar debate performance, and it is exactly the immature pattern we have been witnessing from the moment he announced his candidacy.
We need to remind ourselves that it is the Presidency of the United States he is seeking. Do we really want a man in that office whose behavior is closer to an 8th grader failing “citizenship” than a man on the verge of leading the free world?
