Man Arrested for Gas Station Rape
An 18-year-old who works at a gas station on the 300 block of West Carrillo Street was arrested for rape on October 31. A 34-year-old woman from Goleta had asked Josue Emanuel Torres to use the bathroom at the USA station on October 27, according to Santa Barbara Police, and he then found her using an illegal drug. Employed by the station for the past four months, Torres threatened to call police and have her arrested if she did not have sex with him, she told detectives. Frightened by the prospect of a violation of probation and jail, she acquiesced.
The victim reported the sexual assault to the Carpinteria sheriff’s substation on October 29, and SBPD responded, arranging for a forensic exam of the woman, as well as counseling from the Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center. After investigation, Detectives Douglas Klug and Israel Santillan arrested Torres at a home on the 1100 block of Castillo Street. He has been booked into County Jail with bail set at $100,000.
