Since my online op-ed “How Safe Is Diablo Canyon in a Station Blackout?” was posted on July 1, there have been 3,000-plus earthquakes in California, the strongest being a magnitude 7.1 shaker. The Diablo Canyon nuclear plant was rebuilt to only withstand a 7.5 magnitude earthquake. It’s time to close Diablo down.
