The Autism Society of Santa Barbara and the Sheriff’s Department are teaming up to offer a free course on 4/25 that will train participants how to effectively recognize and communicate with people with autism. The course will offer tips for those in law enforcement or curious citizens on de-escalation and interviewing among other topics. Officer Brian Herritt, father of an autistic child, will lead the training, which takes place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at CenCal Health. April is Autism Awareness Month.
