This year the tournament was able to raise $70,451, which was just over the goal of $70,000. Movegreen, Village Properties and the Teacher’s Fund are all very excited with the turn out. “Everyone just came together to make this event amazing. It really turned out much better than we had anticipated. We are ecstatic,” stated Teacher’s Fund President Renee Grubb.

The tournament is all about raising money for the Teacher’s Fund, but it also is to let loose and have a little fun. Aaron Gilles, John Gilles, Ryan Nomura and Nathan Riegal were the winners of the tournament, posting a mind-bending score of -20 (Note: Aaron Gilles also won the long drive by hitting the ball onto the green from the tee!). To keep the golfers hydrated and fed several local businesses stepped up to pride a little relief. Killer B’s BBQ and Bar provided pulled pork sliders, while Pizza Mizza and Woodstock’s provided a slice of pizza (or two). Business First Bank passed out margaritas and Firestone Walker and Uptown Lounge provided beer to the golfers, all to keep them standing upright.

In addition to time on the greens, non golfers came for a special afternoon pampering event that included services from Mishay Salon which 4 hair stylists, 1 make up artist and 1 massage therapist. Tru Beauty was also there to provide the event with 2 make up artists while Santa Barbara Body Therapy Institute provided 6 chair massage therapists. To keep the pampering patrons with a little relief from the heat Qupe was there to serve up glasses of wine, which coincided with live music provided by local musician George Quirin.

Every year it takes a lot of time and energy to make this golf tournament happen and we couldn’t do it without our sponsors. This year’s Principal sponsor was Cox. Our Vice-Principal sponsors were Montecito Bank & Trust and Santa Barbara Bank & Trust. We were also blessed with our plentiful Teacher sponsors which were Business First Bank, Fidelity Title, Chicago Title, Venoco Inc., American Riviera Bank, First American Title, Gilles Construction, Haaland Diving Inc., Los Arroyos, Medallion Mortgage, Prospect Mortgage, Rabobank, Santa Barbara Auto Group, Steven’s Van Lines, Outrageous Booths, Santa Barbara News-Press and CASA Magazine.

About The Teacher’s Fund:

The Teacher’s Fund, a 501(c)(3), was established by Village Properties Realtors in 2002 and since inception has granted over $970,000 to teachers who have applied for assistance. Their main objective is to help fill the growing gap of budget shortfalls within the K-12 classrooms and help enrich the lives of our children through education. 100% of donations go directly to our local teachers and classrooms. Movegreen, the local, community focused residential and commercial moving company in the Santa Barbara area, partnered with the Teacher’s Fund to form the Annual Movegreen Futures Golf Tournament. Movegreen also pledges to donate a portion of their sales to the Teacher’s Fund. So far in 2012 Movegreen has donated more than $3,700 to the Teacher’s Fund!
