In spite of the tree's she-ishness, the species is speciously monoecious. The round cones bore seeds, but the little yellow ones on same tree shed pollen. This is not to say that girls can't be gnarly, of course.
An image search on "Monterey cypress" shows how individualistic & picturesque they can be. A tree worth hugging, or mourning.

@ Ken_Volok: Yeah, that would be great. China wouldn't be flooded with NK refugees, as would happen if SK, USA &/or Japan counter-attacked NK. And, China would be the dominant power in NK, whereas SK-USA-Japan would be unwelcome neighbors if we-all took care of the political farce in NK.

Wouldn't it gain mystique if it were discoverable only by strolling into a grove of tall trees? Voila, from bathos to pathos. Pleasure seekers would stream to it to capture the experience for themselves. Tourism would tick up. Let true esthetes visit the museum, and not inflict art on us masses.

The silence is more deafening from Christians who don't repudiate our ever-so-unrewarding patronage of Israel.
When Israel clears out Palestinian neighborhoods & erects Jewish housing, our tax U.S. $ are involved. Why should we buy weaponry and munitions for Israel? Some ancient Hebrews write stories good enough to enthrall children, and they remain enthralled for life?
I seem to recall that in the first Crusade, enraptured yoemen took up scythes and pitchforks and streamed off toward Jerusalem, never to arrive. But armies followed. What will follow nail bombs? (And don't expect Israel to share any intel with us re an impending attack.)
Can we rebottle the nuclear genie? Will GWOT be to our short-term benefit but long-term doom? Picture Saladin and Richard the Lionheart, with nukes. Even if we win, we lose.
