Indie Chanteuse Sings at UCSB
Although Mirah’s pitch-perfect vocal
stylings have earn her a loyal following among indie kids
worldwide, those out of sync with the art rock beat may want to
stop Mirah’s performance at UCSB. This singer, you see, has one of
the most drop-dead beautiful-sexy voices in music today. The
product of artsy parents who instilled a love of jazz, Mirah combines her
background with a pared-down indie accompaniment for a striking
effect. And though she’s guest performed a handful of bands, Santa
Barbara music lovers are quite lucky to see her perform solo. The
woman knows how to command an audience. Mirah’s accomplishments
include releasing eight albums in the past seven years, the most
recent of which—the November release Joyride—evidenced her music’s
ability to take on new, strange and fun forms.
Thank UCSB’s Associated Students Program Board for Mirah’s
appearance. Program Board has truly proved itself to have
exceptional taste and considerable skill in booking respectable
acts so far this school year. (And considering that they’re
full-time college students, one might even say they’re doing a
better job than some of their grown-up counterparts.)
Mirah performs at UCSB’s UCen at 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 11.
