Santa Cruz Island Reopens to Public
The portion of Santa Cruz Island owned by the Nature Conservancy was reopened to the public on 7/1 after being closed for more than two and a half years. Since January 2005, access to the Conservancy’s portion of the island – roughly 75 percent of Santa Cruz – had been restricted to the beach only while a New Zealand-based company worked to eliminate the island’s non-native wild pig population in the name of protecting the endangered island fox.
