You can help another adult learn to read to a child, understand documents and bills, work toward a better job, and become a more confident reader. The Santa Barbara Public Library System’s Adult Literacy Program is seeking volunteers to work as one-on-one tutors with community adults twice a week, at all branch libraries. The tutoring services are free and confidential, and can change a life. All volunteers are required to take a training course that provides information about the program, tutoring techniques, and free materials. The next tutor training class takes place on Saturday, July 28, from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the Townley Room at the S.B. Central Library (40 E. Anapamu St.). For info or to register, call 564-5619, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or visit sbplibrary.org.
