Resolutions
It’s a new year and a clean slate, and time to clean up your act (or decide once and for all to be okay with your act as it is). Ergo, the New Year’s Resolution, boon to the weight-loss industry and Nicorette retailers everywhere. In honor of this self-esteem-wrecking tradition, we’ve compiled a list of what some Indy staffers are resolving to do-differently, better, or not at all-this year. Of course, we all know what becomes of most New Year’s Resolutions, so take heart, and don’t believe everything you read.
I resolve to stop stalking the Palm at the Black & Blue Ball. Maybe. -Shannon Kelley Gould
Learn to cook something new once a week-and eat it. -Jen Malkin
I’m planning to have a New Year’s Revolution. I prefer revolving to resolving. -Elizabeth Schwyzer
I resolve to do a lot more daydreaming this year. This will knock out my other resolutions of becoming rich and famous, winning the Boston Marathon, and marrying a wealthy swimsuit model. I can already hear the cheering crowds : -Ben Preston
Travel more and pay off the plastic before the nasty interest runs. And to keep on enjoying working with the fun bunch at The Indy. -Barney Brantingham
I’m quitting cigars! -Ian Simmons
To stop procrastinating. In 2010. -Paul Wellman
To stand up for what I believe in more often and more openly. And to make enough money to be able to stay in Santa Barbara for a while. -Amy Matteson
Achieving the five-day workweek. -Aly Comingore
Lower my triglycerides, pay less for better wine, and pretend email doesn’t exist once a week. -Matt Kettmann
Not to cut my hair in 2008. -Robert LeBlanc
With any luck, I will shower more, drink less, and stop saying “dude” so much. -Ethan Stewart
I only make resolutions I can keep, because I hate disappointing myself. So: eat fewer vegetables but more chocolate, gain at least five pounds, continue wallowing in credit-card debt and student loans, drink more wine, laugh harder and more often every day. -Rachel Weight
