A 60-year-old Santa Barbara County resident leaped to his death from Cold Spring Bridge to his death on 2/17, marking the first suicide from the bridge in nearly three years. Marc McGinnes, an activist with Friends of Cold Spring Bridge, commented that there is no evidence that the suicide-deterrent fencing Caltrans plans to install will stop suicides, though it might cause people to choose methods other than bridge-jumping.
