The rumors are true-after 16 years, Santa Barbara institution Chad’s (625 Chapala St., 568-1876, is for sale. The property, that is. Owner Chad Stevens, who hopes to spend more time with family, might be open to selling the business name and liquor license, but that option seems remote. So people hungry for one of the town’s liveliest happy hours or the Sampler Platter recently praised by the Daily Sound‘s John Dickson better move quickly. Chad’s as the town’s known it will only be serving through escrow, probably no more than a few months.

In his letter to what he calls “the greatest staff in the world,” Chad Stevens wrote: “Please know that this has been the hardest decision for us to make. But as sad as we are, we also have so much excitement about what might await us around the next corner. We will still be operating Sambo’s and looking to embark on new adventures. Life is short, and we want to live every day to its fullest. Wish us luck in our new adventures.”
