Boys & Girls Club Employee Arrested for Stealing Donated Funds
Allegedly Stole $32,000 From April 18 Fundraiser
An employee of the Eastside Boys & Girls Club was arrested this week on charges of grand theft after having allegedly stolen $32,000 in donations that the children’s recreation center had raised at an auction on Friday, April 18. The funds vanished from a locked cabinet sometime before April 22, Boys & Girls Club staff told investigating officers. Suspecting that the culprit could himself or herself work at the center, officers eventually focused on 39-year-old Mychelle Garcia. She was arrested on April 23, and a search of her home and another home yielded what police spokesman Sergeant Lorenzo Duarte deemed “a large amount of money suspected of being part of the donations.”
