The Santa Barbara School District’s Deputy Superintendent Eric Smith was sworn in as the President of the California Association of School Business Officials (CASBO) last week. Hired full time by the Santa Barbara School District just a few months ago, Smith, who has already garnered local acclaim for his expertise during the district’s recent round of multi-million dollar budget cuts, will serve as CASBO’s numero uno through April 2009. With 21 years of experience in the field, Smith, who will remain in his capacity at Santa Barbara School District, is the only sitting business official in the state to have worked as the chief financial guru for school districts, county education offices as well as on the staff of the state’s Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team.
