In the countywide run-off for superior court judge, prosecuting attorney John McKinnon has collected far more – and spent far more – than his rival in the November race, court research attorney Jed Beebe. McKinnon, the top vote getter in the June primary, reported having raised $64,000 by the July 1 deadline and having spent $67,000. Thus far, Evelyn McKinnon – McKinnon’s mother and a retired Santa Maria school teacher – has been McKinnon’s most generous political benefactor, having loaned her son’s campaign $52,000. Beebe, who enjoys support from many of the local judges, reported having raised $21,000 and having spent $16,000. Beebe loaned his campaign nearly $6,000.
