One day after Labor Day, judicial candidate John MacKinnon was touting recent endorsements he’d received from Sheriff Bill Brown, Santa Barbara Mayor Marty Blum, and every member of the Santa Barbara City Council, not to mention by four members of Goleta’s City Council. Although MacKinnon, a North County Republican and prosecuting attorney, is running for a judicial seat that’s largely regarded as part of the “North County” bench, he’s been actively courting South Coast Democrats, touting his past involvement in the drug court program. His opponent, Jed Beebe, is a well-respected Santa Maria attorney who provides research services for the North County bench.
