According to the latest Caltrans safety survey, the bridge across Goleta Slough, leading from Sandspit Road to Goleta Beach County Park, is in need of repairs. In response, County Public Works will limit traffic on the bridge until a temporary support can be constructed. For the next three months or so, traffic on the bridge will be limited to one lane, as it was determined that a reduced load would be an appropriate action for now.

Performed approximately every two years, the safety check of the bridge revealed cracks in one of its supports. Dace Morgan, from County Public Works, said that although the cracks are small, the decision was made to reduce the load on the bridge until the temporary support can be constructed. The temporary support is scheduled to be completed within three months, but Caltrans and the county have plans to replace the bridge completely within the next four or five years. In the meantime, a number of markers will be employed to limit bridge traffic to one lane, with a separate lane reserved for cyclists and pedestrians.
