The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors voted on 9/16 to reject a proposal that would have moved more than 5,000 agricultural acres into Santa Barbara County. With one board member absent, the supervisors voted against it, 4-0. The move would have also needed an okay from Santa Barbara County and the Local Agency Formation Coalition.

After being cleared of the obligation to pay damages to Adam Bros. Farming, Santa Barbara County instead faces, as of 9/11, a federal lawsuit by the company. The legal tussles between the two entities arose from the county’s erroneous 1999 classification of Adam Bros. property as wetlands and an ensuing stop-work order. A Santa Maria jury awarded Adam Bros. roughly $7 million, but a state Court of Appeal overturned that ruling. The State Supreme Court then declined to hear the case. (/adambros918)
