Intermezzo
A Review of the Wine Cask's Bar, With Bistro-Style Dining
Where: 813 Anacapa St., 966-9463, winecask.com.
What: The Wine Cask’s wine bar with a lengthy by-the-glass menu and light bistro style dining
How Much: Small plates $5-$16, maple crme brulee $8
The Dish: Located across the courtyard from Santa Barbara’s highly acclaimed Wine Cask Restaurant, Intermezzo sets itself apart on the dining scene with its small plates and casual yet refined wine bar atmosphere. Since its opening in 1997 under Wine Cask’s ownership, it has been an appealing choice for patrons to relax and savor Kobe beef carpaccio, oyster sliders, truffled mac ‘n’ cheese, and braised pork belly. Also, try the cheese plate (three cheeses, $14) and the skirt steak dusted with sea salt over a bed of arugula ($16). Share small plates with friends after the workday and choose from the extensive by-the-glass wine list that touches on Burgundy, Bordeaux, and Italy while retaining an emphasis on Santa Barbara County. The full bar boasts specialty cocktails (the Blood Orange Drop is a favorite), beer on tap from Belgium to California’s Firestone Double Barrel Ale, and a cigar list. Enjoy late night al fresco dining, bar seating, or cozy indoor tables while grazing on wine-friendly dishes that will leave you feeling satisfied, not stuffed.
