The 2009 edition of the Zagat Survey rated 57 Santa Barbara County restaurants, rating them on a scale of 1 to 30 in categories such as food, decor, and service. State Street mainstay Downey’s scored highest for service and tied with the Ballard Inn for best food. Montecito’s Stonehouse scored the highest for best decor.

Caffeine purveyor Peet’s Coffee is scheduled to open a second shop at 1131 State St.-former site of La Salsa-on 11/3, which will put a new coffee stop into an area that in recent months lost Java Jones and a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. The existing Peet’s Coffee, located at 3905 State St., will remain open for business.
