Internet Millionaire Lectures Santa Barbarans on Business

Internet millionaire Scott Fox spoke to a small crowd at Stateside Restaurant & Lounge on Tuesday night, October 7, which was put on by the up and coming nonprofit organization Catalyst.

Financial advisor to notables such as Larry King and Bill O’Reilly, Fox emphasized the importance of the Internet as the world’s largest market and encouraged those with any business or passion to sell what they love through the worldwide web. Quoting everyone from Confucius to Walt Disney, Fox stressed how crucial it is to love one’s job. “Not being happy with your work is a real travesty because it is the thing you do the most,” Fox said. “Defining success is up to you.”

This was the third event for Catalyst, whose main goal as a nonprofit is to attract people of any age or background into becoming entrepreneurs. The organization is unique in the sense it is made of 100 percent volunteers who are all entrepreneurs themselves. Its slogan “Invest in yourself, invest in your community,” stemmed from Catalyst President Chrissy Deferville‘s idea that by first helping yourself you could in turn benefit your community. “The answer does not lie in someone else’s hands,” Deferville says, “[Catalyst] can equip individuals to get their dreams and at the same time help others.”

All the proceeds from the event went to the charity Junior Achievement, an organization that works with volunteers to teach children and preteens the importance of budgeting and business.
