GRANTING WISHES
The James Irvine Foundation, a San Francisco-based nonprofit dedicated to promoting the arts throughout California, recently bequeathed grants to four S.B. organizations. State Street Ballet, the Santa Barbara Symphony Orchestra Association, Opera Santa Barbara, and the Lobero Theatre Foundation all received endowments ranging from $250,000 to $325,000. 24-HOUR PARTY PEOPLE
On Saturday, October 25, Santa Barbara’s Viva Workshop (125 E. Carrillo St.) will host a 24-hour-long live painting project with a handful of local artists. The finished product will be unveiled to the public at 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 26, with a formal art opening to follow on Thursday, November 6.
UP CLOSE AND CULTURAL
Dancers of all ages and proficiency levels are invited to join Ballet Santa Barbara this Saturday, October 25, for a free workshop at the Carrillo Rec Center (100 E. Carrillo St.) from 2-3:30 p.m. The program will blend contemporary techniques with Balinese and Afro-Brazilian dance styles, and feature dancers from S.B. and New York.
